PONCHATOULA — Law enforcers will have extra eyes and ears on the crowd at the 37th annual Strawberry Festival this weekend.

Onsite Guardian.com, a Hammond-based company owned by Clay Mixon, is donating the service of portable surveillance towers, Police Chief Bry Layrisson said.

"It's for a trial basis during the festival," he said.

Clay Mixon, Kevin Lesaicherre, Kevin Huff and Stephen Payne installed the solar-powered towers Wednesday. Each tower is secured into the ground and is equipped with four shielded cameras.

Law enforcers will have access to the video via the internet. They can monitor the crowd from the police station, from the computers in their patrol cars, or even from their home computers — if they were to be at home, which Layrisson assures they won't be this weekend.

In addition to Onsite Guardian.com, another business is helping with the lost children aspect of security.
